Zhang YanCheng, born and raised in China, is a supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer with over a decade of experience across both independent and commercial projects. He is passionate about using sound to give form to abstract emotions and enhance psychological storytelling. His work has been featured at major festivals including Cannes, Berlin, and the Toronto International Film Festival, with credits such as The Water Murmurs (2022), winner of the Short Film Palme d'Or, and The Crossing (2018), a nominee for the Berlinale Crystal Bear. Drawn to the physical and immersive qualities of sound, YanCheng has contributed to a wide range of major Chinese blockbusters across diverse genres and worldbuilding styles, including the action-comedy Detective Chinatown 2 (2018), the musical City of Rock (2017), and the crime thriller Back to the Wharf (2020). An alumnus of Berlinale Talents 2024, his work spans theatrical features, television, and commercials, and is widely recognized for its craft and precision.
