Marcel Beltrán is a Cuban-Brazilian filmmaker, screenwriter and producer working between São Paulo and Havana. Founder of Mediocielo Films, he develops and produces films rooted in archives, photochemical processes, environmental issues and displacement, often bridging Brazil and the Caribbean. He studied documentary at EICTV (Cuba) and Concordia University (Canada) and began at 16 as a sound designer for Cuban radio dramas. His feature documentary La opción cero (2020) premiered at IDFA and screened at Locarno, Hot Docs and DOC NYC, winning Best Documentary at MiradasDoc and FIDBA. His short La nube won Best Short at the Havana Film Festival and Ponto cego (2025) premiered at Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes and won Best Short Film at Festival do Rio. Beltrán is a EURODOC member, a lecturer on archival appropriation practices, mentors projects in development in Latin American training programmes, and is an alumnus of Rotterdam Lab, Berlinale Talents, Locarno Open Doors and La Fabrique Cinéma.
