Akmaral Mergen is a Kazakh composer and sound producer based in Almaty. Classically trained as a violinist (Kazakh National Conservatory; Musicians Institute, Hollywood), she has scored films such as The Horse Thieves: Roads of Time, Qas, Abel, Crickets, It’s Your Turn and Atomic Secrets (The Guardian), screened at festivals including Busan IFF, Locarno FF, CPH:DOX, Hot Docs and Shanghai IFF. Her score for Qas was nominated for Best Original Music at the 17th Asian Film Awards (AFA, 2024), and the documentary We Live Here is an APSA 2025 nominee for Best Documentary Film
