Jorge Cadena is a Swiss – Colombian artist and filmmaker based in Geneva, Switzerland. Born in Barranquilla (COL) in 1985. In his research, he tries to open subversive spaces to make visible the intimate and the marginalized. Cadena works on the border between documentary and fiction with an interest in the relationship between memory and history. His work reveals a reflection on the different layers of violence in our society. In 2016, he gained his bachelor degree in filmmaking at HEAD – Geneva with his film El Cuento de Antonia, which was awarded with the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam IFF. He obtained his master degree at ECAL/HEAD in 2018 with The Jarariju Sisters that received a special mention at the Berlinale. His films have played numerous international film festivals, including Berlin, Rotterdam, Edinburgh, Kiev Molodist, FICCI Cartagena and Visions du Réel. In 2019, he’s selected to take part in the Karlovy Vary EFP Future Frame programme. In 2020, he’s among the 20 participants of the TIFF Lab of the Toronto International Film Festival. He’s currently working on his first feature film Malestar Tropical.
