Francesca Canepa is a Peruvian director committed to telling stories with a strong social and poetic vision. Her second short film, El Silencio del Río, was shot in the Peruvian Amazon, premiered at Berlinale 2020, and became the first Peruvian contender for Best Live Action Short Film at the 2021 Academy Awards. A graduate of the EICTV Screenwriting program in Cuba, she is currently in post-production on her debut feature, The Other Shore, selected for the 2024 Sundance Screenwriters Lab and winner of the CNC Cinéma du Monde Production Grant (France, 2023). That same year, she was selected for the Sundance x Adobe Women to Watch Fellowship. Her first short film, AYA, shot in the Peruvian Andes, won Best Ibero-American Short Film at Guadalajara Film Festival 2017. She also took part in Talents Buenos Aires 2021. Francesca is represented by Primo Content in Latin America. Her Plastic Fishing campaign for Corona earned five Golden Lions at the 2022 Cannes Lions, where she was also named one of the Top 10 Directors of the Year. She studied Cinema at the University of Montpellier and holds a Master’s in Directing from ESCAC, the Catalan Film School.
