
Ricky Rijneke graduated as Master of Arts in European Media with honors. She is a film director who also works as scriptwriter, editor, producer and photographer. She also trained her skills at the Berlinale Talent Campus. In 2015 Ricky's new project The Hunter’s Son was invited for Script&Pitch of the well-known TorinoFilmLab, TFL. As one out of twelve she got selected for the course lasting nine months that was completed in November. At the same time Rijneke was selected to attend the emerging Talent Lab of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), mentored by famous German director Wim Wenders, Jim Stark (producer of a.o. Jim Jarmusch’ first films). Her first short work of fiction Wing, the fish that talked back premiered in Official Competition of the 60th Locarno International Film Festival nominated for the Golden Leopard for Best Short Film. This award winning film gained international acclaim at more then fifty international film festivals, such as Ghent (competition Prix UIP), San Francisco (Golden Gate Award competition) Hamburg, Denver, Bilbao, Toronto, Rotterdam, London, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Guanajuato, Teheran, Guangzhou. WING, the fish that talked back is distributed in the Netherlands by EYE. Elypse Short Film Distribution (Spain) represents the world sales. Ricky's first feature film award winning Silent Ones premiered in Competition of the 42th International Film Festival Rotterdam nominated for the Tiger Award. Silent Ones was selected for competition of many major international film festivals such as Sarajevo Film Festival, Moscow International Film Festival, Mostra de Sao Paulo (Nomination International Jury Award Best Film), T Mobile New Horizons (Nomination New Horizons Grand Prix), Festival International de Films de Femmes in Créteil and many others. Silent Ones won eleven awards out of fifteen nominations, among others in New York (Winner Best Feature Film), Toronto (Winner Best Female Director), Berlin BIFF (Winner Best Feature Film), Los Angeles Women's IFF (Winner Best Cinematography and Winner Honorable Mention Narrative Feature), Lecce European Film Festival (Winner Best Cinematography and Winner Best Supporting Actor) and Cyprus (two Golden Aphrodites for Best Editing and Best Cinematography). Silent Ones won also the Dutch Golden Stone for Best Film. For Silent Ones Ricky brought together a selection of prize-winning European film talent, including Berlinale’s shooting star the Hungarian actress Orsi Tóth (Delta, Women Without Men), cinematographers Gergely Pohárnok (Hukkle, Taxidermia) and Jean-Paul de Zaeytijd, the regular DOP of all Bouli Lanners films. Sound by Tamas Zanyi (Taxidermia, Son of Saul). Andrey Dergachev (composer of The Return, The Banishment and Leviathan by Andrey Zvjagintsev) designed the soundscape and composed the music. Actress and singer-songwriter Vanessa Paradis contributed with her famous song ‘Joe Le Taxi’. Ricky's second feature film The Hunter's Son is selected for the prestigious Sam Spiegel International Film Lab Jeruzalem.
