I am a filmmaker, producer, curator, and cultural practitioner specialising in queer and feminist performance and film in China. I am the committee member and former director of the Beijing Queer Film Festival. As a filmmaker and producer, I have worked on films focusing on gender issues, including The Drum Tower (2019) and The Taste of Betel Nut (Berlinale Panorama 2017), among others. My film projects have participated in prestigious international programmes such as Berlinale Talents (2019), Venice Biennale College Cinema (2020), and SIFF Next at the Shanghai International Film Festival. With professional experience in film production, co-production, and overseas distribution through my work at Bridging the Dragon Sino-European Producers’ Association and Fortissimo Films, I have built a network across Europe and Asia and am actively seeking international co-production opportunities with like-minded collaborators. A Chevening Scholar, I hold an MA (Distinction) in Applied Theatre from Goldsmiths, University of London, where I explored theatre as a site of political resistance. As an early-career researcher, I aim to bridge academic and artistic approaches to queer performance, contributing to a deeper understanding of how cultural production resists state repression. I am the author of Unveiling the Unspoken: The Evolution of Beijing Queer Film Festival in Reflections in the Post-Independent Cinema Era (Tang Shan Publication, 2024). My current project, The Unheard Echoes, is a (post)-verbatim theatre project developing a methodology to preserve and transmit the resistance history of recent China.
