Eric Aghimien is a Nigerian film-maker – writer, producer, director and editor. He was born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, where he spent his formative years. Eric became interested in film-making after he moved to Lagos in 2006 to pursue a career in entertainment. He intended to study film-making but could not raise sufficient funds to do that, so he decided to read books and online articles to become a film-maker. In 2013, he made his first feature film, A Mile from Home, which won about 14 awards, including the 2014 Africa Movies Academy Awards. Eric had the opportunity to study film-making professionally, for the first time, at the New York Film Academy/Del-York Creative Academy Workshop through a Federal Government Scholarship Programme in July, 2014. In 2015, Eric was one of the 300 talents selected from around the globe to attend the Berlinale Talent Campus of the Berlin International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany. He made his second feature film, Slow Country, in 2016, which won the Audience Choice Award in the 2016 Africa International Film Festival, AFRIFF. Eric has since become a source inspiration and now mentors many young Nigerian talents.
