- Fran, a shy and friendless boy, loses his grandparents and receives as consolation Manchitas, a guinea pig. In a moment of carelessness, the rodent eats an experimental grain and, the next day, dies while Fran is at school. His parents replace him with another without telling him, but he discovers the impostor and runs away from home to investigate the mysterious disappearance.
