Gibrey Allen is an award-winning writer-director who attributes his naturalistic approach to filmmaking to his Jamaican upbringing. The country’s inspiring citizenry and arresting landscapes shape his cinematic language. His films have screened at such festivals as Locarno Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, AFI Silver Theatre, BAM Film Series, New Orleans Film Festival, and Blackstar, garnering recognition & awards.
Allen is a 2024 alumni of Cannes Film Festival's La Fabrique Cinémas Du Monde and 2023 Locarno Film Festival Open Doors Projects Hub.
His goal is to show humanity in its many multitudes with narratives that confront the effects of systemic, institutionalized oppression while also exploring life's many complexities, nuances, beauty, and vibrant imagination.
