Synopsis

SHOUF SHOUF HABIBI! is a comedy about the friends and relatives around Ab (20), a Moroccan kid born in Holland. Ab has great dreams, from being an Arab actor in future Hollywood films from the 'post September 11 era' or a respectable office clerk to bankrobber and ritual chicken butcher.

The film is a comedy thanks to the startling turns in the story, the high-spirited dialogue, the vitality of the characters, the sparkling tone and the tight plot. But there is more. It is also a serious film about cultural differences, tradition and change, about fighting spirit and deceit, acceptance and rejection, love and hate. Ab's parents have lost contact with their children and fight out their own war among themselves. His younger sister tries to find her way in the often fleeting temptations of the Western world while his eldest brother seems the perfect example of integration as a policeman. Confrontations between them and Ab are inevitable.

SHOUF SHOUF HABIBI! is a universal story of dreamers looking for themselves, people searching for an identity in a complex world. Against the background of life in a slum area of a big city this provides comic, hilarious and also painful, tender and harsh moments.
