Preeminent visual effects art director Pierre Buffin who has worked on film such as Nymphomaniac, Life of Pi and Avatar, and Lucy Ainsworth-Taylor who has produced visual effects for Game of Thrones, Cloud Atlas, Skyfall and The Monuments Men, will discuss their creative process making visual effects and optimizing storytelling.

Lucy Ainsworth-Taylor

Began her career in film production working her way up through the production ranks. She was headhunted into The Moving Picture Company where she was instrumental in helping it grow into one of the most successful VFX facilities in the world. In 2009, she formed BlueBolt with two former MPC colleagues. Working on high-end TV and feature films, BlueBolt has rapidly grown into one of London’s most respected boutique VFX facilities winning several industry awards.

Pierre Buffin

French visual effects art director. He founded the prestigious VFX company BUF in 1984, and has since been responsible for computer and visual effects on many films including THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN, FIGHT CLUB, THE DARK KNIGHT, AVATAR, LIFE OF PI and, most recently, NYMPHOMANIAC.

Ben Gibson

Ben Gibson is the director of the DFFB film school in Berlin. He was previously director of degree programmes at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School and a visiting professor at Goldsmiths. From 2001 to 2014, he was director of the London Film School. He is a former independent producer and was head of production at the British Film Institute from 1988 to 1998. Before that he was a distributor, exhibitor, theatre director, film critic and journalist.
