Pre-registration required. European independent documentary filmmakers are really feeling the pinch now as traditional TV funding continues to ebb away and slots are harder to come by. So who is going to support the production and distribution of independent documentary feature films? Look together with Beadie Finzi (BRITDOC) and Adriek Van Nieuwenhuyzen (IDFA) at the challenges and opportunities presented at both platforms when it comes to presenting new projects, getting them funded and how to apply for the programmes both BRITDOC and IDFA offer throughout the year.

Beadie Finzi

One of the founding directors of Britdoc, a non profit film foundation based in London. Since 2005, Britdoc has supported over 160 independent feature documentary films, providing development, production and outreach funding as well as editorial support to some of the most creative and talented filmmakers from over 30 countries. She is also an experienced filmmaker. Her last film ONLY WHEN I DANCE had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2009. She also produced UNKNOWN WHITE MALE, which played at Sundance Film Festival and was Oscar shortlisted in 2005.

Adriek van Nieuwenhuyzen

Dutch curator and programmer. Already during her studies she specialed in documentaries and got involved in the first edition of IDFA in Amsterdam, one of the leading documentary festivals in the world. In 1993 she became deputy director at IDFA and curated several programmes. From February 2007 on she is Head of the Industry office of IDFA and is in charge of the co-production market FORUM, Docs for Sale and IDFAcademy. Besides working at IDFA she is a member of the selection committee of the IDFA Bertha Fund, which aims to generate more attention for the voices of filmmakers in the developing world.
