The Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM), Wolfram Weimer, is responsible for the German government's cultural and media-related affairs. Film support constitutes a central aspect of the BKM’s media policy - providing the legal and political framework for the German film industry and filmmakers, preserving the country’s film heritage, fostering the federal government’s economic and cultural support for the film industry and maintaining international relationships in the world of film.

As a globally renowned platform for filmmaking talent, Berlinale Talents exemplifies the idea of international cultural exchange and long-term support for cinema and its creative practitioners. We are happy to have worked together with BKM for another successful edition in 2025 and look forward to working together again in the upcoming edition in 2026.

Words of Welcome 2026

As the Minister of State for Culture and the Media, I am delighted to greet you all and welcome the chosen international filmmakers from around the world joining this edition of Berlinale Talents. With more than 15 filmmaking disciplines represented among this year's participants, there is no doubt that the Berlinale Talents week will serve as an inspiring time.

Through its tailor-made programme, Berlinale Talents guides filmmakers through the industry with mentorship and encourages dialogue, facilitating international collabo-rations – a vital initiative for the future of filmmakers and the art of filmmaking.

This year’s theme “Creating (and) Confusion – Cinema, Chaos and the Power of Discomfort.” embraces uncertainty and contradictions in creativity. Berlinale Talents celebrates the courage to resist easy answers and to welcome ambiguity in context of cinema.

Let this be a great start to this edition of Berlinale Talents and mark the beginning of a very fruitful journey throughout the Berlinale – let the city of Berlin, and its people confuse and inspire you – and let cinema be the language to which creativity con-tinues to flourish in.
