World Cinema Fund Day

Time
Feb 21st 2024
Location
HAU2

The World Cinema Fund is an initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Berlin International Film Festival, in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office, Creative Europe MEDIA and with further support by the Goethe-Institut.

Established in 2004 by the Berlinale and the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the World Cinema Fund has since turned into a vital platform designed to fund high-quality projects from countries with a weak film infrastructure, while also promoting cultural diversity in German theatres. This year, under the banner “Diversity as Self-Evidence,” the World Cinema Fund Day invites Talents and film lovers from around the world to reflect on the structural changes and policies needed to foster a real multiplicity of voices and projects within and beyond the festival circuit. Following a keynote speech by Elizabeth Mansfeld, the day will continue with an in-depth talk with Nelson Carlos de los Santos Arias, whose Golden Bear contender “Pepe” is among this year's no less than twelve WCF funded films in the Berlinale. The session is followed by a high-profile funders panel on the importance and intricacies of minority coproductions, before the audience can immerse into latest trends in African cinema, again - of course - only with the best of the best the WCF team had the honour and pleasure to work with.
