„If cinema is not a slice of life, but a piece of cake, then Berlinale Talents would be like a visit to the best bakery in town, where you can not only stuff yourself, but also learn how to bake and find other sweetaholics.“

Bonne Projection!

Arnie, by Rina Tsou The Cannes Film Festival kicks off this week and will once again feature several films made by Berlinale Talents alumni. Il Silenzio, directed by 2013 Talent Ali Asgari (Italy/Iran) is competing for the Palme d’or in the Short Film Competition. The programme of Un Certain Regard includes Finish duo Juho Kuosmanen’s and Jussi Rantamäki’s (both BT 2009) film Hymyilevä mies. Romanian filmmaker Bogdan Mirica (BT 2013) has been selected for the same programme with Caini. And of course we keep our fingers crossed also for Romanian filmmaker Christian Mungiu who attended one of the first Talents editions in 2004 and whose film Bacalaureat will premiere in this year’s Competition programme. Dea Kulumbegashvili’s (BT 2015) short film Léthé and Miroslav Sikavica’s short Zvir both premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight. The Critics’ Week is going to host the premiere of Mimosas by Oliver Laxe (BT 2009) as well as of Konstantina Kotzamani’s Limbo (BT 2012) and Rina B. Tsou’s (BT 2015) Arnie. Furthermore, three alumni are part of the Cinéfondation selection 2016: British-Iranian director Hamid Ahmadi’s (BT 2015) with his film In the Hills, Israeli director Or Sinai (BT 2015) with Anna, Ernesto Martínez Bucio (BT 2016) with Las Razones del Mundo. The documentary feature Je suis le peuple produced by French alumnus Thomas Micoulet (BT 2015) is going to be screened as part of the ACID programme.
