What’s right and wrong, it’s sometimes said, is a matter of perception. The diverse voices of filmmakers are strong within the Talents alums group and this event delves into the work of Berlinale filmmakers and artists from Lesotho, South Africa and Spain to trigger debate. Dislocated views of the continent allow us to question what counts as “African” anew and thereby interrogate how misrepresentations sharpen our critical senses. We therefore set out to discuss changing perceptions and question contradictory representations, which drift in and out of Africa.
A documentary filmmaker, author and journalist, Dorothee Wenner has been on the selection committee of Berlinale Forum since 1990 and serves as the Berlinale delegate for India and Sub-Saharan Africa. She is also a founding jury member of the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
